Joe Biden’s National Economic Council director Brian Deese told CNN on Monday that America is not in recession, regardless of whether or not Thursday’s upcoming economic report shows a second straight quarter of GDP contraction, the standard definition.

In an attempt to get ahead of the report, Deese preemptively called it “inherently backwards.”

“Certainly, in terms of the technical definition, it’s not a recession,” he said.

This follows a trend by Biden advisers to anticipate what many predict will be a lackluster economic report.

Many criticized Deese’s remarks as out of touch with the economic conditions facing Americans.

“Instead of changing its failed economic policies, the WH is focused on igniting Americans and changing the definition of recession,” the Republican State Leadership Committee wrote.

Fox News’ Tammy Bruce and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, mocked the administration for trying Jedi mind tricks, tweeting, “The droids you’re looking for don’t exist.”

Michael Knowles, host of The Daily Wire, tweeted a screenshot of the actual dictionary definition of a recession which read: “a period of temporary economic decline during which trade and industrial activity are reduced, usually identified by a drop in GDP in two successive years. quarters.”

Jason Buttrill, a former Defense Department intelligence analyst, tweeted: “The first clue we’re officially in a recession? The White House is trying to redefine the word.”

“This is so pathetic. First, the grace of thinking that you can change long-standing definitions to suit your political circumstances. Second, to think that this helps the American people who already have great fears of recession and low confidence in Biden’s economy. the Titanic,” said Republican communications specialist Matt Whitlock.

He continued: “There’s no better encapsulation of the Biden White House than watching his team desperately brush off the news that we’re already in recession… As President Biden prepares to declare a ‘national climate emergency’ extreme left and the Democratic employees”.

Guy Benson, a Fox News contributor, asked: “[T]they’re going to call the recession “transitory” aren’t they?”
